Our story begins 1.8 billion years ago when a comet crashed into our planet. The supercharged collision sent debris flying over 1000kms and created an impact so great, that it would forever leave it’s mark on the Earth itself.
Fast forward to the late 1800s. Our newly founded nation was building a railway junction and needed a temporary work camp. No one thought the harsh environment contained anything worth building ahome upon. However, soon after the construction of the hub began, there was a discovery of rich minerals embedded beneath the rail-workers feet. BAM! SUDBURY was born and was soon christened the NICKEL CITY! Sudbury quickly began it’s expansion by tapping into it’s natural resources. Mining was the engine that transformed us into a city and Nickel was the fuel that kept that motor running. Soon after, Sudbury was known worldwide for it’s mineral contributions. Over the next century, our city evolved into a dynamic and diverse regional capital. We rose up to help during WWI, quickly recovered from the Great Depression, helped provide troops in WWII, prepared for the Cold War, began environmental rejuvenation and established ourselves as a major centre of financial and business services, tourism, health care and research, education and government. Today, sadly, Sudbury has developed a bad wrap due to corruption, crime, depleting infrastructure, old school mentality and of course, our potholes! Yet still, one thing has remained tried and true, our strength. We endure the harshest of winters and the hottest of summers, our mosquitos and black flies can swallow a man whole, we stand our ground together as brothers and sisters if someone bashes our hometown and we unite to rejoice in our fellow Sudburian’s achievements. |
"We unite to rejoice in our fellow Sudburian’s achievements." We are on the cusp of what to choose and concentrate on... bombarded by negativity and yet we want to stay positive. It’s a conundrum, it’s a burden and it’s time for a change.
We have all had to deal with negativity in the North but deep down we love our families, our friends and our coworkers that have all gone through the same things that we have. This is our home. Many of us grew up here enjoying every aspect that the Nickel City has to offer from our trails, lakes, forests and streams to our nightlife, shopping and urban living. It’s time now for an upgrade! Sudbury is not just a city of miners and labourers anymore. We will forever remember our roots and the hard work it took to get us to this point. FIVE CITY is our vision of the present and the future. It is a representation of our homage and our hometown pride. FIVE CITY represents the world renowned artists, chefs, models, musicians, athletes, entertainers, healthcare professionals, scientists, business owners and miners alike! SUDBURY is now a force to be reckoned with on the global stage ...and not just in one industry. FIVE CITY was created 1.8 billion years ago from an IMPACT and now WE ARE the IMPACT! |
